Tory Burch‘s SS15 collection was an upbeat and enthusiastic addition to Fashion Week. The unapologetically positive range, filled with vibrantly pattered printed pieces cut in flattering shapes, had an artistic and artisanal flair that was designed for broad appeal, rather than provocation.
That is not to say that a sense of audacity was not celebrated, as Burch played with textures and prints in unexpected and exciting ways. The designer certainly injected a sense of arts and crafts and a care-free attitude into her fringe edged crochet tops, smocking skirts and toile printed drawstring silk pants. And her sensible, lace -up flat shoes and ceramic jug bucket bags finished off the looks in a boho style that will make quite a few women want to give it all up and live the life of an artist.
The collection was inspired by the artist Francoise Gilot, who also just happened to be Picasso’s muse and the mother of his children. This can be seen in the laid-back aesthetic taken from the artistic duo’s time in the South of France and the art works produced during this era.
