Adidas has unveiled their first mass-produced footwear using Parley Ocean Plastic, a unique material made from a mix of plastic wasted retrieved by Parley coastal interception and clean-up operations in the Maldives, and recycled polyester. Dubbed the UltraBOOST Uncaged Parley, this running shoe is the first step to adidas’s commitment to creating one million pairs of shoes made with the Parley Ocean Plastic material by end 2017. This is first result of the unique collaboration between adidas and environmental organisation Parley for Oceans that was announced in 2015.
Each running shoe reuses 11 plastic bottles and the shoe laces, heel cap base material, heel webbing, heel lining and sock-liner cover are also made with recycled materials. Being adidas, the shoe is also combined with UltraBOOST’s signature elements to deliver an innovative running shoe, a Continental™ natural rubber Stretchweb outsole for all-weather traction use, a full-length BOOST™ midsole for energy return and a Torsion® system bar made from a renewable source to support the foot’s natural flex with every step. Its design is inspired by ocean waves to reflect the commitment to end the cycle of pollution in the oceans.
