MÜNN and TOTON have been announced the menswear and womenswear winners of the 2016/17 International Woolmark Prize Asia regional final.
Both winners won a financial contribution of AU$50,000 plus the opportunity to represent Asia and compete in the international final, which will be held in Paris in January 2017, where they will showcase a capsule collection made of Merino wool. Aside from that, they’ll also receive mentoring from experts along with a Woolmark license, which allows their wool products to come with a certification that their quality is of the highest global standards.
A clothing brand based in Seoul established just four years ago, MÜNN is known for its fine menswear by Korean designer Hyun-min Han. The winning entry embodies the MÜNN signature: a multi-layered menswear look with relaxed tailored structures created from a combination of woven wool, selvedge detail, raw edges and cable-knitted yarn – a modern and unique look.
Also founded in 2012, the Indonesian brand TOTON is the collaboration between Toton Januar and his business partner Haryo Balitar. Indonesian heritage is complemented by the designer’s craftsmanship and unique interpretation of tradition. Its winning look combines the use of Australian Merino wool with traditional Indonesian methods for an exotic, textured effect.
