If there’s one name in town that knows what she is doing when it comes to embroidery- it’s Melissa Bui. Given her previous S/S16 collection was heavy on vintage silhouettes and embellishments (that, quite honestly, convinced us to give classics and detail a second chance), we were really hoping for this again.
True to its signature style, the creative mind behind the brand has created an enchanting collection inspired by the Kawachi Fuji Garden in Fukuoka, Japan. This is pretty much evident in the fabrics with hints of lilacs and yellows contrasting with the whites, blacks and greys contrast; resulting in a feminine and effortlessly elegant collection.
What’s also interesting with this collection is the artistic feel with the embroidery created by hand with the intricate beads and details. Moving on from her her signature vintage-inspired silhouettes, Melissa has added volume and clean lines to dresses by using pleats. If anything, the collection is no doubt getting us ready for a romantic summer with effortlessly girly dresses.
