April 17th saw the launch of Wendy Yue’s Spring 2014 collection at jewellery house Plukka‘s pop-up boutique in Landmark centre. For ten days the boutique will be dedicated entirely to the designer’s intricate designs and will feature more than 150 pieces. Yue, whose creations have been worn by Rihanna and Michelle Obama, began designing for some of the world’s most luxurious jewellery brands in 1998 and under her own name in 2008. Her designs feature exotic, story-telling narratives conveyed through carved gemstones and elaborate settings. The pop-up features a selection of stunning pieces including those from her MSY collection — her first in sterling silver.
Plukka was launched in 2011 by Joanne Ooi and Jai Waney and is an award-winning jewellery e-tailor. Due to its made-to-order business model Plukka cuts out the middle man and works directly with designers and manufacturers. Hence, they are able to offer pieces at more competitive prices, saving clients 60 to 90 per cent off customary made-to-order prices. Ooi, a former creative director who has worked for Shanghai Tang, has created the pop-up boutique in order to better showcase the designers and their work.
The Wendy Yue pop-up will continue through to April 27th only.
