The Origins of la Panthère de Cartier

Panthère de Cartier collection

The house of Cartier first revealed its icon – la Panthère (the Panther) – in 1914 with a panther-spot motif on a wristwatch. Since then, the emblem has played a significant role in many of Cartier’s exquisite jewellery. Just like the animal, Cartier’s Panther strikes a bold and aggressive style, much like the woman who is said to inspire it – Jeanne Toussaint, who is the brand’s high jewellery creative director in 1933 and a close collaborator and muse for Louis Cartier.

Now celebrating its 100 years in Cartier history, the 2014 Cartier panther is just as impressive in the new collection. Continuing its reign, the animal is the focus in every piece. With 56 pieces to choose from, let’s just say that you’d be purring with delight with each and every one. It’s hard to settle on a few favourite pieces but ours would be the Panther ring that is designed to wrap around the finger. Made from yellow gold, the animal is decorated in black lacquer, onyx and tsavorite garnets. It’s also available in a diamonds version.
