Belgian watch brand Komono has teamed up with the estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat to create a collection of watches featuring the late painter’s work. You may have heard musicians like Jay Z or Rick Ross name-drop this artist on a few occasions.
Basquiat is famous graffiti artist and painter who grew up in America (of Haitian and Puerto Rican decent), who became well know for his loose and unencumbered painterly graphic style associated with street art that gained notoriety in the 1980s. His tragic death in 1988, like a rock star, helped make him a legend.
There are six timepieces to choose from, ranging from plain silver, black and gold faces to ones with Basquiat’s iconic sketched crown. No two watches are the same, with each watch in the capsule collection boasting a different detail of Basquiat’s work from the ’80s on the printed fabric wristbands.
