Tom Ford’s goes from designer to director.

Ever since Tom Ford left Gucci, there’s been talks about him directing a movie.  Well, the movie – A Single Man has finally made its debut at the Venice Film Festival on September 11, 2009 and at the Toronto International Film Festival, a few days after. The Single Man is an adaption of a masterpiece novel by Christopher Isherwood about a college professor, George (played by Colin Firth) attempt to cope with the death of his long-time partner in the 1960s pre-liberation gay period. Set in Los Angeles, the movie features one day in the life of George as his lifelong friend Charlotte (played by Julianne Moore)  tries to help him through his grief.  According to London Times, the movie is described as ‘heart-stopping beauty and a work of emotional honesty” and has already won Colin Firth, the Best Actor award at the Venice Film Festival.

A somber, elegant drama beautifully shot if the trailer is anything to go by. We know we’ll be checking out the costume design and set design if and when the movie ever makes it way to Hong Kong.
