MILL6 Foundation Warms Up With Summer Program

MILL6 Foundation is a recently set-up non-profit arts and cultural institution in Hong Kong that is focused on preserving and promoting textile arts. It is committed to preserving the essence of local culture and heritage, conserving the valued stories of the textile industry and driving a continuous dialogue between Hong Kong and international creators.

This summer, the MILL6 WARM UP – Make a piece of clothing for yourself program will take place on August 20 and 21, wth a series of events that will connect different communities and generations of the textile and garment industries to share their stories and know-how. It is in collaboration with numerous community and independent partners including the Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong, i-dArt (Tung Wah Group of Hospitals), Hong Kong House of Stories, Jik Jik Team, Ying E Chi, Wheel Thing Makers and Cultural Journalism Campus.

Highlight events from the program:

Master Demonstration: Pattern Making
Two pattern makers – veteran pattern master Cheung Chi Mou and fashion designer Hung Ming Kin – will offers hands-on demonstrations of the different steps involved in making a pattern.
When: 20 August, 1pm to 2pm; 21 August, 1pm to 2pm and 4pm to 5pm

Grassroots Filmmaking Project 2016 Screenings
Over the past three months, the public were invited to join workshops led by two independent filmmakers who provided mentorship into the process of researching and making a film. This is a screening of the resulting film.

The Unstoppable Legend of Sewing Machine
MILL6 is accepting applications for the open call competition where 10 individuals will be tasked with sewing goals in a process of elimination that leaves one winner.
