Although Australian fashion designer Alice McCall was born in London, she’s well and truly adopted the playful and carefree nature of her adopted home. Alice is the founder and creative force behind her eponymous label, which was launched in 2004.
Since then, McCall has earned a place in the fashion scene with her highly coveted designs, which are a beautiful mash-up of elements of modern sexiness with folk-like craftsmanship that’s girly and mixed up with a bit of rock and roll attitude.
McCall’s style know-how is the product of a lot of industry experience. McCall first earned her stripes as a stylist for fashion brands such as Sass & Bide as well as musicians like Beyoncé, Kelis and Blondie. During this time, she was often required to customise vintage dresses to give them fresh looks – and so a designer was born.
These days, McCalls fans include Taylor Swift, Mischa Barton and Miranda Kerr. When you’ve got some of the world’s most stylish ladies coveting your designs, the only way to go is up and up.
For SS16, McCall has move into a folklore-meets-futuristic direction. The collection plays with contrasting fabrics, cuts and colours – think: short hemlines styled with with weighty belled sleeves, pastel florals carefully designed with black lace and velvet and and delicate silks mixed with sharp tailoring. We are love the addition of a gentle colour palette of light blue, rose pink, vanilla and lilac to go with the monochrome pieces!
