Walk the Pencil Line with Yohji for Winter 2009.

Yohji Yamamoto is one of the Japanese greats. Born in Tokyo, he graduated from Keio University in 1966 with no less than a law degree. Finding that this wasn’t enough, he studied fashion design at the Bunka University, hitting the design scene three years later.

Right after the debut of his first collection, Yohji struck gold in Paris in 1981 and has been going non-stop since then, becoming more and more well-known for his use of clean lines, simple aesthetics and an avant-garde feel he brings to everything he designs.

His Fall/Winter collection 2009 is no different as he gives us an explosion of black and crimson, exploring the hidden characteristics of every woman with his “Pencil Line” severely cut oversized blazers and red silk explosions at the most unexpected of places. As usual, the pleating and draping is utterly impeccable, creating a look that is harmoniously oversized but not sloppy at all. Pure Yamamoto brilliance we think you’ll agree!
