When you want a Japanese designer with a healthy dose of cuteness, bohemian aesthetic and crazy prints, you turn to Tsumori Chisato. A graduate of Tokyo’s Bunta Fashion College, Chisato interned with Issey Miyake and set out on her own in 1990. In Hong Kong, she has garnered quite a following, gaining popularity with the more fashionable set and Hong Kong’s love for Japanese designs.

Tsumori illustrates her love of the universe in her 2009 Fall/Winter collection, aptly called Cosmic Fantasy. Her collaboration with Shu Uemura has brought about soft images of moons, stars and the ubiquitous Tokyo Tower. Chisato also employs soft draping techniques, with shapes reminiscent of cosmic figures. The result is flowing tops and pants, romantic dresses in a muted palette of pale pink, gray and touches of night sky blues and purples. Of course, zany prints of everything astronomical add an authentic Tsumori Chisato element to the entire collection.
