Spring Summer 2013 welcomes Hedi Slimane‘s debut collection as Creative Director of Saint Laurent Paris and also his first as a womenswear designer. Our resident blogger, Visala, went along to check it out, and what can we expect from the French fashion house this spring? Well, Slimane’s signature skinny silhouette is there, as are the pussy bows of early YSL and an undeniably rock chick attitude.

Inherently cool, the collection is a sexy and contemporary reworking of the YSL aesthetic within Slimane’s own world of fashion and music. Le Smoking, as clean, lean and stylish as it ever was, demonstrates Slimane’s abilities as a tailor, while the beautiful shirts are a nod to Saint Laurent’s heritage in chiffon. What is most surprising is the feminine detailing; sequins, embroidery and beading show a loyalty to the origins of the house and proof that the controversial re-brand was a move worth making.
