Prada puts on its serious cap for fall.
While other designers were channeling fun party nights for fall, Miuccia Prada headed to the other direction. Her fall 2009 ready-to-wear collection clearly had a serious and stolid vibe. Suits were no-nonsense in dark wools, and they were paired with almost utilitarian-looking footwear that included chunky socks, and dark leather boots.
Cuts were made to look severe and deliberate, from the bulky shoulders of some of the looks, to the low necklines of the others. The collection’s colors were also straightforward- plain reds, greys, browns and blacks. It was only near the end of the collection that Prada showed some frills in the form of dresses in hard metallic colors.
Prada takes the current economic climate to heart and brace us for the harsh winter ahead.
