Black and white sixties silhouettes that channel the elegance of Jackie Onassis.
For Spring Summer 2013, French fashion house Paule Ka has made a nostalgic nod to the sixties, with modish collars, simple, graphic shifts and classic femininity. Established in 1987, Paule Ka is known for reflecting the glamour of a Hollywood screen but setting it against a distinctly Parisian backdrop. For this collection, Creative Director Serge Cajfinger, draws inspiration from the elegant first lady of fashion, Jackie Onassis, but it’s not all pillbox hats and suits, these clothes have a decidedly contemporary feel to them.
The collection is feminine and playful, contrasting fabrics, textures and colours. The sixties shapes and proportions avoid looking old fashioned through clever use of fabric; a demure nipped-waist dress becomes anything but when it is made entirely from guipure lace, while guaranteed to be big next season ostrich feathers peek out from under hemlines. The palette is predominantly black and white, with four pieces boasting a bold, oversized floral print courtesy of artist Julien Colombier and a sumptuous crimson creeping in too. Overall, this collection conjures up the sunshine and glamour of Palm Beach in the sixties; we can’t wait to team it with a pair of oversized sunglasses and go for a stroll along the boardwalk.
