Jay Ahr Spring/Summer 2014 Collection

By Butterboom Writers  /  October 18, 2013

Jay Ahr Spring/Summer 2014 looks towards contemporary architecture as inspiration where buildings like Beijing’s CCTV tower and Oscar Niemeyer’s Brazil helped form the collection’s silhouettes and styles. Says designer Jonathan Riss of the collection, “I wanted to capture the point where futuristic construction morphs into its natural surroundings.”

What is apparent with the collection is the cool layering in airy whites and metallic blacks where different textures provide depth and fluidity. Riss combined technical fabrics like cellophane thread, sleek neoprene and laminated mesh with the more natural types like silk crepe and cotton poplin to give his pieces structure and femininity. The collection features slim dresses and pants with embroidery patterns as well as the Belgian-born designer’s signature trompe l’oeil dresses.
