The latest Dior Pre-Fall 2014 collection speaks the Dior language with a very convincing Belgian inflection thanks to creative director Raf Simons’ influence. The loveliest example was the evening-wear, where, in an attempt to do something different on a road well travelled, he went classic — as classic as a T-shirt. And when combined with a dramatic long flowing skirt, is quite extraordinary.
The collection features graphic panels on the front of a tank dress or a trapeze top. There are jacquards of flowers floating above minutely detailed landscapes: a Belgian beach with a bicycle in the distance, a Dutch tulip field with a traditional windmill and a wind turbine on the horizon. The classic Bar jacket makes an appearance in an updated soft, unstructured version and the collection also sees an injection of leopard print.
