John Galliano takes inspiration from Asia in Dior’s Fall collection.
Although Christian Dior never made it to Asia, John Galliano did not let that stop him from channeling the region in Dior’s Fall 2009 ready-to-wear collection. Taking a few lessons from Paul Poiret, a fashion revolutionary from a century back, this season’s offerings included many harem pants, rich brocades, ikat prints, cheong-sam silhouettes and other obvious Asian references.
This collection was a cheerful one, illustrated in bright happy colors of blue-violet, pinks, reds, yellows and oranges. To taper the looks, blacks and greys were also constantly seen. Day dresses in paisley, and printed cocktail numbers also did well to establish the buoyant mood.
