A contemporary celebration of Gabrielle Chanel’s iconic designs.
2013 is a big year for Chanel as it marks 100 years since Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel first opened the doors to her boutique and established what would become one of the world’s most successful luxury brands. It seems only logical, then, that current Creative Director, Karl Lagerfeld, packed his designer suitcases and relocated the house and more than a handful of celebrity followers to Singapore for the Resort 2014 show.
The show itself was a modern celebration of Chanel’s original summer wear designs and the way that she invented and innovated beachwear as we have come to know it, not to mention simple, elegant daywear and stunning eveningwear. A nod towards the 1930s ran throughout the collection, as did reference to the continent where Lagerfeld had selected to showcase his latest designs. All in all it was sumptuous, beautiful and undeniably Chanel.
