Liu Min‘s never been one to follow the pack. The Chinese fashion designer is the founder of Ms Min, and is leading a new generation of designing talent who has transitioned from a local label to a global name for combining modern simplicity with a hint of romanticism.
Unlike most of her peers, Min’s also eschewed the major cities to base her label in Xiamen, China. Her designs are influenced by a range of eras from Chinoiserie to mid century couture to retro elegance for a diverse contemporary wardrobe.
After graduating from the London College of Fashion and working for Viktor & Rolf and Ports, Min launched Ms Min in 2010. She’s created a buzz on the global fashion scene, even attracting buyers from Lane Crawford. She was also recently shortlisted for this year’s LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers.
For her Spring 2016 collection, Min takes inspiration from her Asian heritage and presents a collection that features Cheongsam tailoring, kimono-style wraps and bold prints. Her collection is a lesson in functional luxury, with dresses that are suitable for a black tie event or for the office. Elegant dresses with voluminous silhouettes and dresses that come with oversized bows or tiered layers: Min has achieved the perfect balance of modern romance and night-time glam.
