Nicolas Ghesquière’s debut collection for Louis Vuitton includes the highly anticipated Le Petite Malle bag. The bag finds inspiration in Vuitton’s roots as a trunk maker, and with the bag coinciding not only with Ghesquière’s debut collection, but also with the 160th anniversary of the house of Vuitton, it is fast becoming one of the most coveted totes for Fall 2014. Actresses Jennifer Connolly and Julian Moore are fans and the bag was a big feature on this years Met Gala red carpet. Le Petite Malle is available in a varied selection of colours and patterns, and even comes with a removable canvas cover that is both protective and stylish. Perfect for when you want a more toned down look and for protecting against unsuspected downpours!

On the Fall runway the Le Petite Malle bag was shown as a little treasure trunk, which can be opened by unfastening the 3 side locks, however, the version that is  available in store this month will be slightly different. That’s usual practice – runway pieces are altered to make production easier, pieces more affordable and more wearable – but, in this case the alteration means a top closure instead of the side version, plus a bulky black leather strap hanging from the top to the middle lock that has to be unfastened prior to opening the bag. We think this takes away a bit of the charm that the original has, but doesn’t seem to have lessened its popularity as there is currently a three month waiting list. Best you get your name down now.
