Doan Fayet is the new Hair Director at Sozo Hair Design located at Wyndham Street, Central. We were invited to have a hair make-over which included a hair cut and the “balayage,” a French coloring technique that is more subtle than ombre.
The expert – Doan spent 4 years honing his craft in Paris at the famous Jean-Marc Maniatis Hair Salon, who’s founder is a celebrity hair stylist who’s styled many of the big designer’s Parisian fashion shows and is known for their rigorous training program. Before ending up in Sozo, Doan spent a year in Beijing and two years at Emmanuel F in Hong Kong.
The experience -When you first meet Doan, he takes the time to consult with you on what you want and what you don’t want, your hair maintenance habit, from how many times you wash your hair to how you dry your hair after washing it. This is key in getting the hair style you want to end up with and how your hair will look everyday there after.
Doan cuts hair in the special dry-cutting technique, where he sculpts your hair strand by strand, and you can see the shape as it’s forming. (no shorter than expected surprises that is pretty common with wet cuts). Since I’m a pretty low maintenance person when it comes to my hair, I opted for a layered cut that will keep its shape and minimum styling for my medium length hair. For colour, I decided to break out of my dark brown shade and go light brown ombre with blonde highlights to give my hair volume and texture.
The verdict – Doan’s cut is amazing. I love the highlights and ombre effect and am getting use to the lighter shade. Sozo scores top marks for their warm hospitality under the stewardship of Japanese owner Yoko Hisatomi Lane. Staffs are thoughtful and attentive, they charged my iphone 5 and served me a glass of wine while I endured the long hours.
