San Francisco based skincare brand Tatcha has recently launched in Hong Kong, their first international outpost. Tatcha created a range of skincare that is inspired by the ancient beauty rituals of Japanese geishas. Founded three years ago by Victoria Tsai, who, after developing dermatitis from testing skincare products on her skin, decided to look to Japan for some natural treatments. What she found was a 200 year old manuscript detailing the geisha’s daily skincare routine.
Tsai then went on to work with teams of Japanese scientists, scholars and even geishas to develop the special formulas used in Tatcha’s products. The end result is a simple four-step beauty routine that emulates that of a geisha, with a cleansing oil, an exfoliating powder, a brightening serum and finally a moisturising cream.
The standout product here has to be the rice enzyme powder, which turns into a foam once it gets wet and is a three-in-one cleanser, toner and moisturiser. Using rice bran to refresh and polish their skin is an old technique of the geishas and we can confirm that it really does work, leaving your skin significantly brighter and softer than most exfoliating cleansers.
